Doug Carmichael, a Grade 8 Teacher from J.R. Reid School, was one of the 30 local recipients of the King Charles III Coronation Medal at a recent celebration held by Brandon Souris MP, Larry Maguire.
About the King Charles III Coronation Medal: The Coronation Medal program was created to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. It recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region, or community in Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to our country.
Doug Carmichael is a dedicated educator, coach, and community volunteer whose contributions span athletics, education, and military heritage. As a key player for Brandon University’s men’s basketball team, he helped secure national championships in 1987, 1988, and 1989, leading to his induction into the Brandon University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
Since 1994, Doug has served as a middle year’s educator in the Brandon School Division, volunteering annually for nearly three decades to coach young athletes in basketball. Honouring his father’s military legacy, he has been a volunteer drummer with the 26th Field Regiment Pipe Band for over 25 years, performing at CFB Shilo’s Remembrance Day services and community events.
Doug’s lifelong dedication to education, sports, and military heritage has left a lasting impact on his community.
On behalf of BSD’s Senior Administration, we extend congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Carmichael
