Two Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day (also known as Two Spirit and Indigiqueer Celebration and Awareness Day), recognized on March 20, 2025, as a time to honour and uplift the diverse identities, experiences, and contributions of Two Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Rooted in Indigenous traditions, the term "Two Spirit" refers to a sacred identity recognized by many Indigenous nations, embodying a balance of masculine and feminine energies. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of Two Spirit people, who have long held important roles in their communities as healers, leaders, and knowledge keepers. It also raises awareness about the unique challenges they face, including discrimination, erasure, and barriers to healthcare and social support.
To honour the day, Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples’ Council (BUAPC) is hosting a special flag-raising ceremony on March 20th in front of Brandon City Hall at 410 – 9th Street, starting at 10:00 am.
“Community members, leaders, and allies are all invited to attend and show their support. The ceremony will begin with a smudge and include remarks from BUAPC, community advocates, and followed by the flag raising.”
