Riverview School Catchment Consultation Update

Riverview School

The Brandon School Division Board of Trustees recently received a request to consider changing Riverview School from a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school to a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. As part of this process, a survey was conducted to gather feedback from the community.

We are pleased to share a summary of the survey results:

  • Participation:
    • 311 respondents, including Brandon School Division parents and staff.
    • A majority of responses were linked to Riverview School and King George School, focusing on Kindergarten to Grade 6 programming.
  • Current Catchment Boundaries:
    • Feedback indicated most respondents were neutral or very satisfied with the current boundaries.
  • Proposed Change Feedback:
    • Generally viewed as having a positive impact.
    • Top concerns: distance from school and safety/transportation.
    • Top benefits: continuity, reduced travel time, and enhanced school community.
  • Priorities by Group:
    • School families prioritized proximity and continuity.
    • Staff prioritized capacity, proximity, and continuity.

With overall favourable feedback supporting the proposed change to Kindergarten to Grade 8, a motion regarding this catchment change was presented at the Regular Board Meeting on February 10, 2025, where it received unanimous approval.

That Riverview School accept registrations immediately for Grade 7 for September 2025, and subsequently for Grade 8 for September 2026.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Senior Administration, we would like to thank our community for participating in this important milestone for Riverview School.
