Candidate Registration Open for Brandon School Division Trustee Election

Individuals interested in serving as a Brandon School Division Trustee in the 2026 School Board Election can now register as candidates. 

The registration period for School Trustee candidates closes on September 22, 2026. Candidates must register with the Senior Election Official before they may accept campaign contributions, incur expenses, fundraise, or borrow money for their campaign.  

Candidate registrations are accepted during regular business hours at the Brandon Votes Election Office, located on the main floor of the Civic Administration Building (410 – 9th Street, Brandon).

The 2026 Municipal and School Board Election will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

School trustees play an important role in shaping the future of public education in Manitoba. Election Day is October 28, 2026. Consider making a difference in your community by putting your name forward.

The 2026 School Board Elections are scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026. This is a great opportunity for residents to take part in shaping local education in Brandon. 

School Trustees are elected every four years during Manitoba’s municipal elections. They play an important role in representing the community, helping set priorities for local schools, and supporting decisions that impact students, staff, and families across the Division.

If you’re curious about what’s involved in becoming a trustee—or just want to make sure you’re ready to vote—there are some helpful resources available: 


Information for Candidates

The campaign registration period for school division trustee candidates opens June 30, 2026. Anyone intending to run for municipal office must register with the SEO before accepting contributions, incurring expenses, raising funds, or borrowing money for their campaign. 

To qualify as a candidate for municipal council, an individual must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day
  • a resident of Manitoba
  • a qualified voter, which includes someone who has lived in or owned property in the municipality for at least six months before Election Day (Apr. 28, 2026)
  • not subject to disqualification under The Municipal Act or any other applicable legislation

Under The Municipal Act, the following individuals are disqualified from being nominated:

  • a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench or the Court of Appeal
  • a provincial judge or justice of the peace
  • a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba or the Senate or House of Commons of Canada
